So which should you buy? Here's our honest take after handling both in our Dubai workshop.

Buy Pro 11 if: you want maximum performance, OLED display option, 13-inch screen for productivity, or a longer-lasting investment.

Buy Pro 12 if: you want a smaller and lighter device for travel, are budget-conscious, want included pen support out of the box (Pro 12 includes the pen storage), or do mostly browsing and document work.

Performance: Real-World Comparison

In our shop, we've benchmarked both on common tasks:

Office work (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams): Identical performance. You won't notice any difference.

Web browsing (Chrome, 20+ tabs): Pro 11 slightly faster on heavy JavaScript pages, but only by 5-10%. Both feel snappy.

Photo editing (Photoshop): Pro 11 noticeably faster on complex effects and large files. Pro 12 fine for basic editing.

Video calls (Teams, Zoom): Identical. Both have great cameras and AI noise reduction.

Light gaming (cloud gaming, indie titles): Pro 11 wins for sustained performance.

AI features (Copilot+ Recall, Cocreator): Identical NPU performance — both are 45 TOPS.

Battery life (mixed use): Surprisingly close. Pro 11 has a bigger battery; Pro 12 has more efficient chip + smaller display. Real-world: Pro 12 11.5 hours vs Pro 11 12 hours.

Display: Why It Matters

Pro 11 with OLED option is a noticeably better display experience. True blacks, vibrant colors, smooth 120Hz scrolling. If you watch a lot of video, edit photos, or care about color accuracy, this is significant.

Pro 12 LCD is good but not great. Comparable to the Pro 9 LCD. 90Hz feels modern but not as silky as 120Hz.

For productivity work (mostly text and spreadsheets), the difference is minor. For media consumption and creative work, OLED Pro 11 wins.

Form Factor: The Real Story

Pro 12 in hand feels like an iPad with a kickstand. It's noticeably more comfortable to hold one-handed for extended periods (e.g., during meetings, while reading). The 11" screen is enough for one app at a time but cramped for split-screen multitasking.

Pro 11 feels more like a laptop replacement. The 13" display works well for split-screen, the keyboard is more comfortable for long typing sessions, and the larger battery handles all-day work without anxiety.

Repair Outlook (Our Specialty)

Both are very recent releases. Repair part availability:

Pro 11: We stock screens (OLED and LCD), batteries, and common components. Same-day service for most repairs. Screen repair AED 1,800.

Pro 12: Stocked but newer means smaller inventory. Most repairs same-day, occasional next-day for specific components. Screen repair AED 1,500.

Long-term, both should be repairable for 5-7 years like all modern Surface Pros.

Which Should You Buy?

Get Pro 11 if you'll keep it 4+ years. The performance headroom and OLED option give you longer-lasting satisfaction. AED 1,000 more upfront for materially better hardware.

Get Pro 12 if you prioritize portability or budget. It's the more practical everyday device for casual users, students, and frequent travelers. The included pen storage is a quality-of-life upgrade Pro 11 lacks.

Skip both and get Pro 9 used (AED 2,800-3,500) if you don't need Copilot+ features. Pro 9 is still a great device and saves you AED 1,000-2,000.

Repair-Aware Buying Advice

Both Pro 11 and Pro 12 are well-built with repairable designs. From a long-term cost perspective, Pro 12's smaller form factor means less surface area to crack — slightly lower screen-damage risk for clumsy users.

We see roughly 1 cracked screen per 30 Pro 11 owners we serve in Dubai. Too early to track Pro 12 statistics with confidence, but the lighter weight should reduce drop risk.
