Microsoft Surface Hub for Business in Dubai: Buying Guide

Surface Hub is Microsoft's all-in-one meeting board: a large touch display, camera, microphones, speakers and a removable compute cartridge running Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows. For a Dubai office, the current model is Surface Hub 3 in 50 inch or 85 inch sizes. Getting value from it depends less on the hardware than on room planning, licensing, management and a plan for when something breaks.

Which Surface Hub 3 Size Fits the Room

Microsoft's tech specs set out the main differences between the two sizes:

Both use an Intel i5 compute cartridge with 32 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage, the Surface Hub Smart Camera with a 136 degree field of view, and a one-year limited hardware warranty. Microsoft positions the 50 inch for smaller spaces and the 85 inch for large rooms. The 50 inch also works on mobile stands from Microsoft's partners, which suits offices that share one board between rooms.

Plan the Room Before You Order

Microsoft's site planning guide gives clear rules:

• People should be able to reach all four edges of the touchscreen.
• The screen should not be in direct sunlight, which can affect viewing or damage it. In glass-fronted Dubai offices, check the afternoon sun.
• Ventilation openings must stay clear.
• Microphones should be away from noise sources such as fans and air conditioning vents.
• Room temperature should stay between 10°C and 35°C, with humidity inside the range Microsoft lists.

For mounting, Microsoft lists a VESA pattern of 350 x 350 mm for 50 inch models and 600 x 600 mm for 85 inch models, the larger one with an adapter kit sold separately. The 85 inch installation guide says the device is very heavy, must stay upright and needs at least two people. If you are unsure the wall can take it, Microsoft advises using a professional installer.

Licensing and Setup

Surface Hub 3 runs Windows 11 IoT Enterprise with the Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows experience. Before first start you need:

1. A resource account with a supported Microsoft Teams Rooms licence. Microsoft recommends the Teams Rooms Pro licence.
2. A way to sign that account in, either its credentials or a one-time passcode from the Teams Rooms Pro Management Portal.
3. A wired Ethernet connection, which Microsoft recommends. Wi-Fi works, but not on captive portal networks that redirect you to a sign-in page.

Microsoft strongly recommends changing the factory default admin password straight after setup. For several Hubs, provisioning packages on a USB drive can apply the network profile, certificates, proxy settings and Entra ID join in one go. Our Surface Hub setup guide walks through the steps.

Management and Security

Microsoft built Surface Hub on Teams Rooms on Windows so IT can manage it like other meeting rooms:

• Intune for settings and policies, and Windows Autopilot for low-touch deployment.
• Teams Admin Center and the Teams Rooms Pro Management Portal to monitor health and room status remotely.
• BitLocker, TPM 2.0 and Conditional Access to protect a shared device.

Features have kept arriving through Teams Rooms updates. Microsoft lists Microsoft Edge for touch boards from September 29, 2025, off by default until an admin turns it on, and Miracast wireless projection from May 27, 2026. One-touch join covers Teams, Zoom and Webex meetings.

If You Already Own Older Hubs

• Surface Hub v1 (55 and 84 inch). Microsoft states these are no longer supported and recommends a hardware refresh. A v1 can still serve as a display for an external PC in Replacement PC Mode, without updates or support.
• Surface Hub 2S. Windows 10 Team reached end of support on October 14, 2025, with no extended support option. Microsoft's options are the Surface Hub 3 Compute Cartridge, which turns a 2S into a Surface Hub 3, or a software migration to Teams Rooms on Windows. The Migration Launcher app route closed on December 14, 2025, and the USB method remains. A software-migrated 2S does not gain Smart Rotation, portrait mode or the faster hardware.

Plan for Support and Repair

Microsoft lists firmware and driver servicing for Surface Hub 3 until December 30, 2030. Within that time, plan for what happens when a Hub fails:

• Record each Hub's serial number, printed on the display near the power cord, and its warranty end date.
• Store BitLocker keys and admin credentials where IT can find them, because recovery and resets ask for them.
• Know which parts Microsoft lists as user-replaceable on Surface Hub 3: the compute cartridge with removable SSD, the Smart Camera and the pens.
• Decide who handles the display, touch and power faults once Microsoft's warranty ends.
